Since 2008, the winery has focused on crafting wines with alternative varieties, particularly those inspired by Mediterranean traditions. Each wine is represented by a letter of the alphabet, showcasing a wide range of styles and varietals sourced from McLaren Vale, Adelaide Hills, and Barossa Valley. This project highlights the breadth and potential of the region’s viticulture.
Led by Head Winemaker Sam Berketa, Alpha Box & Dice emphasises innovation and drinkability while staying true to the distinct character of South Australia's terroir. Sam's global winemaking experience informs a philosophy that merges traditional techniques with a modern approach, ensuring each wine reflects both its regional origins and the creativity of the winemaking team.
The cellar door at Alpha Box & Dice is housed in a heritage-listed barn surrounded by McLaren Vale’s picturesque vineyards. Visitors can choose a premium seated tasting to explore the Alphabet of Wine or enjoy a relaxed visit with a glass or bottle accompanied by a selection of regional platters. The tasting experience is designed to be both educational and engaging, offering insights into the winery’s innovative approach to winemaking.
With a focus on personalised service, the cellar door limits seated tastings to six people per table, creating an intimate atmosphere for guests to immerse themselves in the wines.
