Alkina is a winery in the western Barossa ranges that focuses on organic and biodynamic viticulture to create small-scale, micro-terroir wines. The estate’s name, meaning "Moon" or "Moonlight" in Indigenous Australian language, reflects its deep connection to the land and natural forces. The vineyards, with their ancient soils and carefully mapped parcels, are the foundation of wines that express the unique characteristics of the estate.
Alkina’s winemaking centres on understanding the individual micro-terroirs within its 60-hectare property. Through the Polygon Project, the winery identifies and vinifies specific parcels separately, creating distinctive wines like Polygon No. 3 and Polygon No. 5 Grenache. The range also includes blends like Old Quarter Grenache Shiraz Mataro, with all wines grown and made on-site in the Barossa Valley.
The tasting room at Alkina is housed in a restored stone barn from the 1850s, providing a welcoming space to explore the wines. Structured tasting flights showcase the estate’s wines, often paired with cheese and charcuterie. Guests can also experience the Kitchen Garden Lunch, where seasonal dishes are crafted from the on-site organic garden.
