Ballycroft is a small, family-run winery in Greenock, in the western Barossa Valley. Originally established as a cheesery, the property transitioned to winemaking in 2005, with a focus on sustainable viticulture. The vineyard, planted in 1998, is entirely rain-fed, and the winery operates on solar power and harvested rainwater. Ballycroft’s wines reflect the terroir and seasonal variations, allowing each vintage to tell its own story.
Owner and winemaker Joseph Evans oversees every stage of production, from vineyard management to winemaking and bottling. The winery is known for its small-batch, handcrafted approach, with a strong commitment to sustainability. Each wine is made with minimal intervention, highlighting the characteristics of the vineyard and the conditions of the growing season.
Visitors to Ballycroft are invited to book a private tasting experience rather than visit a traditional cellar door. Tastings are hosted by Joseph or Sue Evans and provide a personalised introduction to the wines and the vineyard. Guests can expect an informative and relaxed session, with insights into the winemaking process and the winery’s commitment to sustainability.
With a strong focus on small-group experiences, tastings are limited to a maximum of eight people. The intimate setting allows for a deeper appreciation of the wines and the family’s hands-on approach to winemaking.
