Trentham Estate, deeply rooted in the Murray Darling region, reflects the Murphy family’s rich agricultural heritage. Originally part of the 'Trentham Cliffs' sheep station, established in the 1930s, the estate has transformed into a thriving vineyard under the stewardship of the Murphy family, who arrived from Ireland in 1909. The first vintage was produced in 1984 from just 6 tonnes of grapes, and the estate has since grown to include 45 hectares of vineyards and a modern winemaking facility capable of processing around 5,000 tonnes of premium fruit annually.
The estate’s vineyards, planted on red loam over limestone soils and irrigated by the Murray River, include some of the earliest Shiraz vines in the region, dating back to 1952. Trentham Estate continues to focus on quality winemaking, combining tradition with modern techniques to craft a diverse portfolio of varietals. This dedication to quality and innovation has earned the estate recognition both domestically and internationally, cementing its reputation as one of the Murray Darling region’s standout wineries.
The Cellar Door at Trentham Estate offers visitors a welcoming and relaxed space to explore the estate’s wines while enjoying views of the Murray River. Open seven days a week, the Cellar Door provides tastings of Trentham’s broad wine selection, including the exclusive Cellar Reserve range. Knowledgeable staff are available to guide guests through the wines, ensuring an informative and enjoyable experience. For those wishing to complement their tasting, a selection of outdoor platters is available daily until 3pm, featuring seasonal produce to pair with Trentham’s wines.
