Founded in 2011 by Redmond “Herring” Sweeny and Tony “Snake” Davis, Snake And Herring emerged from a shared passion for wine and a serendipitous meeting over a parcel of Porongurup Riesling. With backgrounds in wine industry, agriculture, and accounting, the duo embarked on a journey to express their vision of Western Australian wines through unique and adventurous vinification. The winery's approach is deeply rooted in the philosophy of exploring the viticultural treasures of the South West WA, crafting wines that reflect the diversity and richness of its terroir. This exploration has led to a dynamic range of wines, including riesling, sauvignon-blanc-semillon, and cabernet-sauvignon, among others, each a reflection of Snake and Herring's commitment to quality, sustainability, and minimal intervention.
At the core of Snake and Herring is a celebration of the South West's vineyards, with a focus on hand-picking, natural fermentation, and minimal additions to ensure the wines express their individual sites and styles with minimal winemaker influence. Situated at 3763 Caves Road, Wilyabrup, the cellar door epitomises the winery's approachable and explorative spirit, inviting visitors to sample a range of wines in a simple yet inviting setting.
