Nazaaray Estate is a small, family-owned winery on the Mornington Peninsula, producing single-vineyard wines in a cool-climate setting. Established by Paramdeep and Nirmal Ghumman, who emigrated from India in 1981, the winery was built on former cattle farmland and has grown into a respected producer of Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Syrah. The vineyard is influenced by its elevated, windswept location near Greens Bush, part of the Mornington Peninsula National Park, creating wines with distinctive regional character.
With a hands-on approach to winemaking, all wines are crafted in small batches on-site. Nazaaray Estate is known for its focus on quality over quantity, producing limited releases that reflect the unique growing conditions of the region. In addition to its wines, the winery is committed to conservation efforts, donating all tasting fees to the Tiger Water Life Project, which helps protect the endangered Bengal tiger. This connection to nature and sustainability is an important part of its identity in the Mornington Peninsula.
The Cellar Door at Nazaaray Estate offers a relaxed and informal tasting experience, hosted by winemaker Paramdeep himself. Guests can sample a selection of the latest releases while learning about the winemaking process directly from the person behind each bottle. Tastings take place on the outdoor deck overlooking the estate’s farmland and the wildlife corridor leading to Greens Bush, where kangaroos can sometimes be seen at dusk.
In addition to wine tastings, visitors can enjoy optional food pairings inspired by Indian flavours, including small plates such as samosas, pakoras, and tikka. The property also features two vintage train carriages, adding a unique touch to the setting. While the winery does not operate as a restaurant, the Cellar Door provides a peaceful and engaging atmosphere to experience both wine and conversation.
