Lost Penny Wines is a family-owned winery in the Barossa Valley, run by sixth-generation Barossans Carol and Nick Riebke. The vineyard traces its roots back to the late 1800s, with a deep connection to the land and the traditions of Barossa winemaking. Specialising in small-batch wines, Lost Penny Wines crafts a range of reds, including Shiraz, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon, using estate-grown fruit from the highly regarded Ebenezer sub-region.
The name Lost Penny Wines originates from a historic discovery—an 1891 penny found among the vines, symbolising the family's rich heritage and enduring passion for viticulture. With a focus on sustainable practices and a hands-on approach to winemaking, Carol and Nick ensure each bottle tells the story of the land, their family, and the seasons that shape their wines.
Lost Penny Wines offers a unique and intimate tasting experience, held at the family’s working winery. Guests are invited to explore the property, hear stories of the Riebke family’s history, and taste their latest vintage in a relaxed, personal setting. Each experience is guided by Carol and Nick, providing a rare opportunity to meet both the winemaker and grape grower behind the label.
Visitors can enjoy a structured tasting in the winery, barrel tastings, or even take a walk through the historic vineyard, where the oldest Shiraz vines were planted over a century ago.
