Greenstone Vineyards, established in 2003, is nestled within two of Australia's most prestigious wine regions: the Heathcote and the Yarra Valley. The winery's inception by industry luminaries David Gleave, Alberto Antonini, and Mark Walpole was driven by the unique terroir of their initial site near Colbinabbin. This area's ancient Cambrian soils, among the oldest in Australia, provide a distinctive foundation for their celebrated Shiraz and Sangiovese varieties. A pivotal expansion occurred in 2015 with the acquisition of Sticks Winery in Yarra Glen, broadening their varietal portfolio to include Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon, among others.
Both vineyards of Greenstone Vineyards are renowned for their complex and ancient geologies, which significantly influence the character and quality of their wines. The Heathcote vineyard, with its east/west vine orientation and copper-infused basalt soil, mirrors a European landscape more than an Australian one, producing fruit with lively characters and brighter acidity. The Yarra Valley site, known for its cool climate and Silurian mudstone-derived soils, emphasises varietal intensity, complexity, and elegance in its wines.
