Flaxman Wines is a boutique winery in Barossa Valley, nestled in the picturesque Flaxman Valley. Established in 2004, the winery is known for its small-batch production of Riesling, Shiraz, and Semillon, sourced from estate vines first planted in 1929. Additional fruit is carefully selected from growers in both the Eden Valley and Barossa, expanding the range while maintaining a focus on quality and regional character.
The winemaking is led by Colin Sheppard, who personally oversees every stage of production. The winery embraces a hands-on approach, crafting wines that reflect both the land and the vintage. The cellar door offers visitors a relaxed setting to explore these wines, with tastings that provide insight into both the winemaking philosophy and the vineyard’s history.
The Flaxman Wines Cellar Door is an intimate space designed for a welcoming and personal experience. Overlooking the vineyard, guests can enjoy tastings indoors or relax in the alfresco dining area under a pergola built by Colin himself. The setting includes a long communal table and a handcrafted pizza oven, creating a relaxed and inviting atmosphere.
Visitors can choose from a standard tasting or book a more immersive experience, including a guided vineyard tour and tasting with the winemaker. A selection of light bites is available during cellar door hours, and pre-booked cheeseboards provide an additional option for those looking to pair their tasting with food.
You can expect the following from a tasting at Flaxman:
Bookings are recommended for all tasting experiences, particularly for the guided tour and long lunches. The cellar door operates from Thursday to Saturday, with Sundays available by appointment only. Guests planning to enjoy a three or five-course long lunch should book at least 72 hours in advance. Due to the small and intimate nature of the space, advance reservations ensure the best experience.
