Château Tanunda is one of the most historically significant wineries in the Barossa Valley. Established in 1890, it stands as the site of the region’s first winery and some of its earliest vineyards, planted in 1843. The Geber family has been the custodian of this iconic estate since 1998, revitalising its heritage while crafting some of the Barossa’s most acclaimed wines. With a focus on Old Vine Shiraz and Grenache, Château Tanunda’s portfolio includes rare, limited-release wines sourced from some of the oldest vines in the world.
Combining traditional and modern techniques, the winery employs basket pressing, open fermentation, and minimal intervention to maintain the purity of its fruit. With estate vineyards spanning Tanunda, Bethany, Vine Vale, and Eden Valley, as well as long-standing relationships with local growers, Château Tanunda continues to produce wines that showcase the depth and diversity of Barossa terroirs.
The Château Tanunda Cellar Door offers a grand and immersive wine experience, set within the historic bluestone winery. Guests can explore a selection of curated tastings, ranging from the Barossa Discovery Tasting to the highly collectable Old Vine Expressions, featuring wines from 50, 100, and 150-year-old vines. The Shiraz Experience provides insight into the region’s most famous varietal, while private tours give visitors a deeper look into 130 years of winemaking history.
