Ashton Hills is a distinguished cool-climate vineyard in the Adelaide Hills, renowned for its exceptional pinot noir and riesling. Established in 1982 by Stephen George, the vineyard is perched at 570 metres in the Piccadilly Valley, one of the coldest and wettest subregions in South Australia. Over decades, Stephen pioneered pinot noir clone development, selecting five key clones that now define the Estate and Reserve Pinot Noir wines.
The vineyard produces wines that reflect the region’s high-altitude climate, with elegant structure and purity of fruit. While the Estate vineyard remains the primary source of Ashton Hills’ wines, the range also includes a Piccadilly Valley Pinot Noir sourced from the nearby Cemetery Block, as well as a well-regarded sparkling shiraz made with fruit from Clare Valley’s acclaimed Wendouree Vineyards.
The rustic Ashton Hills cellar door offers a relaxed and intimate tasting experience with panoramic views of the Piccadilly Valley. Visitors can enjoy a seated tasting of the Estate and Piccadilly Valley ranges, guided by knowledgeable hosts who share the vineyard’s history and winemaking approach.
The cellar door is open from Friday to Monday, with tastings available by appointment. Guests can choose to pair their wines with a “Build Your Own” platter of local bread, olives, and olive oil, creating the perfect setting to unwind with a glass of Ashton Hills' renowned pinot noir.
