Windowrie Wines, a pioneer in the Cowra Wine Region, was established in 1987 by the O'Dea family. This family-owned estate has deep roots in agriculture and wine, with founders David and Wizz O'Dea bringing their respective farming and Hunter Valley heritage to the venture. The vineyard, initially purchased in 1959, has evolved from cereal crop production to a focus on viticulture in the 1980s. This strategic shift has led Windowrie to become a prominent winery in the region, known for its low-yielding, super-premium fruit from some of the oldest productive vineyards in Cowra.
Organic and Biodynamic practices are central to Windowrie's philosophy, with over 80 acres of organically certified vineyards and an additional 50 acres in conversion. These practices, including minimal intervention and sustainable techniques like grazing sheep instead of using herbicides, are a testament to the O'Dea family's commitment to producing high-quality, environmentally conscious wines. The family's diverse educational backgrounds, from viticulture and wine marketing to building and communications, contribute to the winery's innovative approach and global perspective.
Unfortunately, Windowrie Wines no longer operates a tasting room. However, wine enthusiasts can still explore and purchase their range of wines at Ferment, the Orange Wine Centre, located at 87 Hill Street, Orange.
