Thorn-Clarke is a family-owned winery with deep roots in both Eden Valley and the greater Barossa wine region. The family’s connection to the land dates back to the 1870s when one side established a fruit farm that would later nurture some of the region’s oldest vineyards, while the other side uncovered the first gold mine in the Barossa. A century later, these legacies merged, forming a winery dedicated to producing wines that celebrate the richness of the land and its heritage.
The Thorn-Clarke journey began in 1987 when David and Cheryl Clarke planted their first vineyard at Kabininge, near Tanunda. For over a decade, they supplied fruit to neighbouring wineries before transitioning into winemaking in 1998. Today, the family continues to craft wines that showcase the strength of their estate-grown fruit, with a particular focus on Shiraz and other classic Barossa varietals. With multiple generations involved in vineyard management and winemaking, Thorn-Clarke remains committed to honouring tradition while embracing innovation.
The Thorn-Clarke Cellar Door offers a relaxed and welcoming setting to explore their range of wines. Visitors can choose a guided tasting or enjoy a self-paced experience with a selection of wines served on a tasting plank. The space is designed to highlight the surrounding landscape, with panoramic views of the estate vineyards and Eden Valley’s rolling hills through floor-to-ceiling windows.
Beyond tastings, guests can unwind with wines by the glass, enjoy a Barossa Produce Platter featuring local cheeses and delicacies, or take advantage of the family-friendly outdoor area with gardens, lawn games, and shaded seating. The winery also offers a unique experience with its driving range, where visitors can tee off towards the Eden Valley vineyard.
