The winery is renowned for its unique terroir, which boasts diversity in its topography, climate, and soil composition. Its vineyard, a charming expanse in Apple Tree Flat, is home to 15 hectares of 20 to 25-year-old French and Italian grape varieties.
Skimstone's winemaker and vineyard manager, Jean-François Esnault, hails from the iconic Bordeaux region of France. Known colloquially as Jeff, he's a dynamic personality with an acute attention to detail. Passionate about creating wines that truly reflect the terroir and fruit of the Mudgee region, Jeff's philosophy is simple: work harmoniously with nature, respect the environment, and focus on harvesting the highest quality fruit in each growing season. The result is a range of Skimstone wines that are the perfect blend of chardonnay, merlot, cabernet, barbera, and sangiovese — each offering a journey through space and time.
At Skimstone's tasting room on Castlereagh Highway in Mudgee, you can savour the full wine list in a warm, welcoming atmosphere. This boutique winery promises not only scenic views but also enough space for larger groups, delightful cheese boards, and a family-friendly environment.
