Mewstone Wines, located along the D’Entrecasteaux Channel in Tasmania, was established in 2011 by brothers Matthew and Jonathan Hughes. Set on a former cherry orchard, the 5.2-hectare vineyard focuses on Pinot Noir, with smaller plantings of Chardonnay and Riesling. Winemaker Jonathan Hughes applies his international experience to craft single-site wines under the Mewstone label and more experimental, low-intervention styles under Hughes & Hughes, showcasing the vineyard’s unique terroir.
The Mewstone Cellar Door, open on weekends, offers guided tastings for $25 per person, featuring a rotating selection of 8–9 wines. Guests can explore the best of Mewstone and Hughes & Hughes wines, complemented by locally sourced platters. Knowledgeable staff provide insights into the winemaking process and the stories behind the wines, enhancing the experience. The intimate space, designed with thoughtful details including artwork by Michael Schlitz, ensures a memorable visit.
