Craigie Knowe Vineyard is the oldest vineyard on Tasmania's East Coast, producing handcrafted wines that reflect the region’s cool climate and rich history. Established in 1979, the vineyard has been carefully nurtured over the years to create elegant, small-batch wines, including Pinot Noir, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Gris, and Chardonnay. Glenn and Alex Travers, the current custodians, are passionate about growing high-quality fruit with minimal intervention, allowing their winemaker to craft wines that truly express the terroir.
The vineyard’s origins date back to visionary founder John Austwick, whose pioneering work in cool-climate viticulture laid the foundation for Craigie Knowe’s exceptional reputation. Today, the estate continues to honour that legacy, combining traditional methods with modern expertise to produce wines that are both complex and refined.
Visitors to Craigie Knowe can experience a relaxed and personalised wine tasting in the vineyard’s rustic cellar door, housed in a historic building that was once the original winemaking space. Tastings are guided and seated, providing an opportunity to explore the vineyard’s history and winemaking approach while sampling a selection of wines served in high-quality glassware.
For those looking to extend their visit, the cellar door offers a range of Tasmanian produce to enjoy alongside a glass of wine, including cheese boards and platters. Guests can also opt for the Chocolate & Wine experience, which pairs handcrafted chocolates with Craigie Knowe wines for a truly indulgent tasting. The vineyard’s relaxed outdoor setting, just metres from the vines, is the perfect spot to unwind and take in the peaceful surroundings.
You can expect the following from a tasting at Craigie Knowe:
Bookings are recommended for all wine tastings and experiences, particularly for groups. The vineyard also offers immersive tours that take visitors beyond the cellar door to explore the vines and learn about the seasonal vineyard work.
