Charles Melton Wines is a small, family-run winery in the Barossa Valley, specialising in premium red wines crafted from some of the region’s oldest dry-grown vineyards. Established in 1984, the winery has built a reputation for producing wines that reflect both the land and traditional Barossa winemaking techniques. Charles and Virginia Melton have worked closely with growers and their own vineyards to create a portfolio that includes Grenache, Shiraz, and Cabernet Sauvignon blends, with a focus on depth, balance, and longevity.
The winery’s estate includes vines exceeding 80 years in age, with yields kept low to concentrate flavour. Traditional techniques such as whole bunch fermentation, open fermentation, and basket pressing allow the wines to express their origins with purity. Bookings are recommended for all tasting experiences, which are available daily from 11 am to 5 pm, with the last session beginning at 4:30 pm. Visitors can choose from three tasting flights, ranging from introductory selections to premium vertical tastings. Group tastings for 7 to 12 guests can be arranged by appointment. While walk-ins are welcome, booking in advance ensures a personalised experience tailored to each guest’s interests.
