A boutique Winery and Cellar Door in the Coal River Valley
Caledon Estate Vineyard is a single-site, family-owned vineyard located in the Coal River Valley, just minutes from the village of Richmond. Established in 2019 on an elevated, dolerite-rich site, Caledon produces expressive cool climate wines that reflect the landscape’s unique character. With a strong focus on sustainability and minimal land disturbance, the vineyard was planted around existing native gum trees and is lightly grazed by sheep to maintain natural ground cover.
The vineyard is home to several varietals including Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Gris, and Sauvignon Blanc, with small-batch wines crafted in collaboration with Spring Vale Vineyard. Overseen by a passionate team including Vineyard Manager Justin Folloso and Winemaker Matt Wood, Caledon continues to push the boundaries of quality while maintaining a deep connection to the land and its surrounding environment.
Caledon’s architecturally designed Cellar Door offers panoramic views over the Coal River Valley towards kunanyi/Mt Wellington. Built using sandstone unearthed from the site, the space features an open fireplace, bench seating, and large windows that bring the outside in. Guests can enjoy guided tastings of estate-grown wines in a cosy and welcoming setting that celebrates the vineyard’s dramatic surroundings.
The Cellar Door also offers cheese platters featuring local Tasmanian produce, with tastings available by the glass or bottle. With a relaxed atmosphere and a strong sense of place, the tasting experience at Caledon is ideal for both wine lovers and those discovering the Coal River Valley for the first time.

Bookings are recommended for tastings at Caledon Estate Vineyard, especially for larger groups or special events. Tastings are $10 per person and are waived with any bottle purchase. The Cellar Door can cater to private group bookings and occasional hosted events.
