Woolly Villain, an Adelaide Hills winery, embraces a spirit of innovation and playfulness, offering a distinctive approach to winemaking. Located on the Kenton Creek Estate, the winery draws inspiration from the spirited Suffolk sheep that roam its vineyards, embodying its bold and unconventional philosophy. Since 2014, Woolly Villain has focused on crafting small-batch wines that reinterpret classic varietals like Chardonnay, Rosé, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Riesling, and Cabernet Merlot. Their approach combines creativity and respect for the Adelaide Hills’ unique terroir, resulting in wines that stand out for their character and individuality.
Committed to sustainable and biodynamic practices, Woolly Villain minimises the use of sulphides and prioritises soil health, ensuring that each wine is a true reflection of the region. The winery’s emphasis on experimenting with unexpected flavours and techniques invites wine lovers to discover a fresh take on familiar varieties while celebrating the essence of Kenton Valley.
The cellar door is set in a striking location along Caves Road, with views across the vineyard landscape. Visitors can choose between stand-up tastings at the bar or seated tastings for a more leisurely experience. The winery also operates a restaurant on-site, where you can order food to accompany your tasting — the kitchen prepares dishes including octopus, beef tartare, ceviche, and duck. Staff are trained to explain each wine in detail and guide you through the range from everyday releases to the premium selections.
