Established in 1995, Brown Hill Estate is a family-owned winery located in Margaret River, in the village of Rosa Brook. The estate follows a philosophy that great wine starts in the vineyard, using traditional winemaking methods such as hand-picking and hand-sorting fruit. With vines planted in the region’s distinctive gravelly soils, Brown Hill produces deeply flavoured wines that reflect the land’s unique characteristics.
The winery focuses on estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot, Malbec, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Semillon. Many of its wines pay homage to the family’s heritage in Kalgoorlie, with names inspired by the gold mines of Western Australia. The result is a collection of wines that capture the essence of the site while honouring the region’s winemaking traditions.
Brown Hill Estate’s cellar door offers a warm and intimate tasting experience inside the winery itself, allowing visitors to witness the winemaking process throughout the year. Guests can choose from a seated tasting showcasing the estate’s three wine ranges, or opt for a comparative tasting of the small-batch Golden Mile wines alongside the Reserve range. For a more personal experience, the ‘Meet the Maker’ tasting provides insight into the winery’s history, hosted by co-founder Gwen Bailey.
The relaxed, welcoming atmosphere makes Brown Hill a rewarding stop for wine lovers looking to explore Margaret River’s boutique wineries. Tastings are conducted by family members, ensuring an experience that is both informative and personal.
