Battle of Bosworth Wines, established in 2001 by Joch Bosworth and Louise Hemsley-Smith, produces certified organic wines from vineyards planted in the early 1970s in the McLaren Vale. The winery is rooted in a family history of grape growing dating back to the 1850s and is recognised for its commitment to organic viticulture since 1995. This approach combines sustainability, minimal intervention, and traditional winemaking to capture the purity and character of the region’s fruit.
In addition to its Battle of Bosworth range, the winery also produces wines under the Spring Seed Wine Co. label, using grapes from the same organically certified vineyards. Both collections highlight McLaren Vale’s Mediterranean climate and diverse soils, offering wines with texture, integrity, and a distinct sense of place.
Located in a charming converted 1850s chaff shed and stables, the Battle of Bosworth cellar door offers elevated views of the surrounding vineyards, with vistas stretching north to McLaren Vale and west to the Gulf St Vincent. Open daily, this intimate and rustic space provides a relaxed setting for wine tastings, featuring both the Battle of Bosworth and Spring Seed Wine Co. ranges.
With a friendly and knowledgeable team, guests can enjoy a personalised experience while learning about the winery’s organic practices and rich history. Due to the small size of the cellar door, group bookings are not accepted, ensuring a calm and welcoming environment for all visitors.
