Gibson Wines is a family-run winery in Barossa Valley, founded by viticulturist, geologist, and winemaker Rob Gibson in 1996. With over 50 years of experience, Rob and his family continue their search for exceptional fruit, working closely with multi-generational grape growers across the region. Their estate vineyards in Light Pass and Eden Valley produce a range of wines that reflect the Barossa’s diverse terroir, with a focus on Shiraz, Riesling, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Fiano.
The winery’s home vineyard surrounds an 1850s Blacksmith’s cottage and features vines planted under the unique Gibson-Schulz trellis system, co-developed by Rob. The Light Pass site sits slightly elevated above the Barossa Valley floor, offering a rich viticultural history dating back to early German settlers. With strong community connections, Gibson Wines continues to craft wines that celebrate both the land and the people who cultivate it.
The Gibson Wines cellar door, located in Light Pass at the northern end of the Barossa, offers a relaxed and welcoming tasting experience. Fresh from a renovation, the space combines modern comforts with classic Barossan hospitality. Visitors can enjoy tastings indoors, under a vine-shaded veranda, or in the alfresco area overlooking the surrounding vineyards.
The winery embraces a casual, drop-in-friendly atmosphere but also welcomes bookings for those who prefer to plan ahead. The spacious lawn area, set against rows of Merlot and Fiano vines, provides a perfect setting to enjoy a glass of wine while playing a game of Bocce or simply unwinding with friends and family.
