clos Clare is a boutique winery in Clare Valley, located in the southwest corner of the famous Florita Vineyard in Watervale. Run by brothers Tom and Sam Barry, the winery continues a legacy that spans generations in the region. Originally planted with sherry varieties in the 1940s, the Florita site became known for producing some of Australia’s finest Rieslings, particularly under the guidance of winemaker John Vickery. The Barry family acquired the vineyard in 1986, and in 2007, Tom and Sam took over the small five-acre parcel that had previously been part of clos Clare, ensuring the continuation of its storied history.
With a deep understanding of Clare Valley’s terroir, the Barry brothers focus on producing Riesling that is a true reflection of its site, maintaining a balance of freshness and complexity. Alongside their signature Riesling, they also craft small-batch Shiraz and Grenache, working with select parcels of fruit. Their winemaking approach respects the traditions of the region while incorporating knowledge gained from international experience, ensuring wines that express both heritage and innovation.
